If you Zero it when the battery is full and there are no amps being drawn (turn off the house bank switch beside the steps) then it will pretty accurately tell you what you've used and how much you have remaining until the next full recharge. You program it for the number of amp hours in your bank (225 for me) the 'Full' battery voltage (12.7) the low battery alarm (12.0) The high battery alarm (16.0) and the high current alarm (I used 50 amps for that) and it will tell you what's happening with your battery bank. I put the Hall Sensor on the series cable between my pair of 6 volt golf cart batteries, but you can put it on any battery cable, so long as it's one which shows all current going into or out of the battery bank One wire with a fuse on the battery positive and one negative wire and you're all set.
You do have to cut the 3 wires running between the meter and the Hall Sensor and splice in something long enough to reach between the meter and your battery compartment, but that's not very hard - Solder and heat shrink the connections. You can buy the same exact thing on eBay from China for $6 or $7 less, but then if you get it from Amazon, you won't have to wait 3 weeks and you can return it if you have any problems Last week I installed the Drok Hall Sensor Battery Meter I bought from Amazon for $28.99 and I've been playing with it some ever since.
